What is the difference between dispersion and dissolution?

Now let’s look at the definition of “dispersion”.

A similar word is “dissolution.”

“Dissolution” is to dissolve in a liquid into a molecular state.

“Dispersion” is to break up in a liquid into a particle state.

By the way, in colorants,

Molecules are dyes and particles are pigments.

“Dyes” ⇒ “dissolved” molecular states

“Pigment” ⇒ “dispersed” particle state

The particle size of pigment particles in general paints and printing inks is

about several tens of nm ~ several μm.

Dispersion is the crushing of the aggregation of secondary particles.

Ideally, each primary particle should be isolated.

It is very important and very difficult technology.
